Benefits of ceramic coating
A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that bonds to clear coat (or to PPF) to add a slick, hydrophobic layer. Unlike traditional wax that wears off in weeks, a professional coating can last years with proper maintenance.
What you gain
- Easier washing: dirt and water bead off faster, reducing swirl marks from aggressive wiping.
- UV and chemical resistance: helps slow oxidation and etching from bird droppings or bug splatter when cleaned promptly.
- Depth and gloss: especially noticeable on dark colors and well-corrected paint.
- Works with PPF: coating on top of film keeps the surface slick and uniform.
Coating is not a substitute for PPF
Ceramic does not stop rock chips like paint protection film. Many owners combine PPF on high-impact areas with coating on the rest of the vehicle — or coat the entire car after film install.

Frequently asked questions
- How long does ceramic coating last?
- Professional coatings are rated for multi-year life with proper washing and occasional maintenance products. Harsh chemicals, neglect, or abrasion shorten lifespan.
- Can coating prevent scratches?
- Coating adds some resistance to fine marring but is not armor. It is not a substitute for PPF against rock chips and door dings.
- Should I coat a brand-new car?
- Many owners coat new paint after inspection (and correction if needed) to lock in gloss. Some pair coating with PPF on high-impact panels.
- What maintenance does coating need?
- Use pH-neutral washes, avoid automatic brushes, and follow any booster or maintenance product guidance from your installer.
